The Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading fitness classes to clients under the direction of the Program coordinator and/or Kinesiologist associated with the program and in line with the certification standards.
Key Responsibilities- Class Leadership: Lead fitness classes to clients, ensuring a safe and engaging environment.
- Client Goal Achievement: Work towards fulfilling client goals as outlined on assessment, promoting overall well-being.
- Service Delivery: Participate in ongoing review of service delivery process and evaluation, ensuring high-quality services.
- Professional Development: Attend educational in-services deemed appropriate by Kin and/or coordinator, enhancing professional knowledge.
- Fall Prevention Education: Provide fall prevention education as directed by Coordinator and/or regulated professionals, promoting client safety.
- Incident Reporting: Report any situations deemed inappropriate to their Kin/coordinator, ensuring a safe working environment.
- Equipment Maintenance: Report any defect in any equipment which may endanger themselves or others, maintaining a safe working environment.
- Compliance: Function and report in compliance with the OHS legislation, regulations, and VON policies and procedures.
- Collaboration: Frequent interaction with Coordinator, Physiotherapist, and clients, fostering a collaborative environment.
- Education: High school graduate, with a focus on health and wellness.
- Designations: CCAA Certification as a Seniors Fitness Instructor and/or equivalent preferred, demonstrating expertise in the field.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching group fitness classes for older adults, including experience teaching specialized classes for chronic conditions, such as Osteoporosis, Parkinson Disease, Diabetes, and Osteoarthritis.
- Health Promotion: Experience promoting health and well-being through physical activity, enhancing overall well-being.
- Assisted Living Environment: Experience working in an assisted living environment, such as recreation therapy, is an asset.
- Bilingualism: Bilingual in French/English is an asset, promoting communication with diverse clients.
- Confidentiality: Respect for privacy and confidentiality, maintaining client trust.
- Dependability: Dependability and trustworthiness, ensuring a reliable working environment.
- Communication: Good communication and active listening skills, fostering effective collaboration.
- Calmness: Capacity to remain calm in unexpected situations, maintaining a safe working environment.
- Teamwork: Ability to work well independently and as part of a team, promoting a collaborative environment.
- Vehicle Requirements: Must have access to a personal vehicle for business use and possess both a current driver's license and proof of vehicle Insurance.
- Criminal Background Check: Current criminal background check including a vulnerable sector screen is required, ensuring a safe working environment.
- Personal Protective Equipment: The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required, maintaining a safe working environment.
