Job Description

This Leadership role contributes significantly to the strategic business priorities of revenue growth and improved client experience by leading a team of experienced professionals in commercial lending. The successful candidate will support the Mid-Market Commercial Client Team in meeting the credit needs of clients while delivering a distinctive advice experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Client Experience
  • Creates a collaborative environment by engaging with colleagues to collaborate on meeting client's credit needs.
  • Represents and promotes the RBC brand by participating in bank events and local business community engagements.
  • Inspires team members to work collaboratively with colleagues to execute a coordinated client management strategy as guided by client prioritization and annual review requirements.
  • Supports the team in escalating senior credit development and approvals of credit for SLR and ComCom review.
Client Solutions and New Client Acquisition
  • Coaches and influences team members to deliver credit solutions that meet or exceed client needs and proactively identifies additional opportunities to grow products/services.
  • Manages the credit renewal process for the region in collaboration with colleagues, effectively and proactively considering fluctuating volumes, time required for analysis, structuring, documentation, and negotiation of transactions, and balance capacity as needed to meet portfolio needs.
  • Reinforces the importance of setting pricing and fees within prescribed guidelines on the portfolio jointly with colleagues, understanding the need to balance sales results, portfolio profitability, and relationship building.
  • Works with the CFS relationship team and CAG/GRM partners to ensure timely provision of credit solutions to clients.
  • Ensures each team member works their network of clients, external industry, and business contacts to generate new business opportunities for RBC.
Employee Capability and Engagement
  • Demonstrates commitment to teamwork and collaboration by coaching, mentoring, and assisting colleagues to meet the credit needs of all clients.
  • Coaches team members to maximize the use of technology to follow through on client strategies, sales activities, and opportunities, as well as to build corporate memory and enable continuity of client servicing.
  • Engages in workforce planning with RVP CFS and maintains an active talent pipeline.
  • Assists the RVP in providing credit coaching to all VPs on structuring complex transactions, introducing credit process improvement, policy changes, and trends or issues related to the portfolio.
  • Continues to develop a centre of expertise in credit that supports the field in training and advice.
Business and Risk Management
  • In partnership with Portfolio Quality Manager, provides expert advice to VPs to help resolve complex issues related to ongoing portfolio management.
  • Exercises good judgment when making decisions, balancing shareholder risk and client experience.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge on all communications, including changes to RBC policy and procedures, and ensures others do as well.
Requirements:
  • Proven track record in financial and credit analysis in support of exceptional client relationship management.
  • Minimum three years' experience in commercial lending at a major financial institution.
  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Economics, Accounting, or Finance with strong quantitative, financial modeling, and analytical skills, as well as ability to analyze company financial statements.
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office, as well as experience with emerging resources, communications, and technology (e.g. online data resources, web-based meetings, social media, digital banking, and mobile applications).
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills with high level of attention to detail in both written work and financial analysis.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to perform well under pressure, prioritize multiple tasks and projects, while meeting time-sensitive deadlines.
