Job Description

The successful candidate will work with a team of experienced planners, strategists, civil engineers, and technologists to deliver municipal planning and strategy projects. The work involves:

  • Land use planning and approvals processes
  • Plan, policy, and bylaw development
  • Municipal and intermunicipal collaboration
  • Engagement, communications, and facilitation
  • Local and regional strategic planning

The responsibilities of this role include:

  • Effectively managing a wide range of planning assignments, including land development, community planning, policy development, and strategic planning
  • Contributing to the development of municipal planning documents and policies
  • Designing, facilitating, and supporting strategic planning and community engagement sessions
  • Business development and proposal preparation for planning and multi-disciplinary projects
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • An accredited degree in Planning or a closely related field (Master's degree is an asset)
  • 4-6 years of progressively responsible experience in municipal planning, intermunicipal or regional planning, land use, or related planning experience
  • Eligibility for Registered Professional Planner (RPP) designation (RPP designation is an asset)
  • A strong understanding and experience working within Alberta's planning framework, the Municipal Government Act, and development approval processes
  • Experience in public participation (IAP2 training is an asset)
  • Demonstrated experience in projects that are complex and have long-term impacts
  • The ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and build and strengthen relationships with interested parties, clients, contractors, and municipal partners
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
Compensation

This role offers a competitive hourly rate of $60-$80 per hour, depending on experience, plus eligible overtime (calculated at 1.5 times) that can be banked or paid out. We also offer a flexible work environment, hybrid work options when not in the field, and a comprehensive benefits package.
