The Clinical Informatics Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting various clinical areas and implementing clinical applications at Joseph Brant Hospital & Foundation. This position requires a strong understanding of health informatics, clinical practice standards, data modeling, information systems, and computational thinking.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, implement, or evaluate health information technology applications, tools, processes, or structures to assist nurses, physicians, and other providers with technology and informatics best practices.
- Design, develop, select, test, implement, and evaluate new or modified informatics solutions, data structures, and decision mechanisms to support patients and healthcare professionals.
- Use informatics principles and methods to design or implement health information technology applications to resolve clinical or healthcare administrative problems.
- Translate nursing practice information requirements between nurses and systems engineers, application developers, and other technical or clinical resources.
- Provide front-line support to the Hospital Information Systems (HIS) and related applications. Facilitate educational training to ensure the clinical service area applications are utilized for maximum efficiency.
- Assess customer needs, analyze workflows, identify gaps/areas of concern, and provide recommendations for improvements.
- Develop or implement policies or practices to ensure the privacy, confidentiality, or security of patient information.
- Collaborate with other members of the Clinical Informatics, Technical Services, and Data Management teams in Health Information Technology.
- Apply project management discipline and skills to move approved projects towards success and stakeholder satisfaction.
- Analyze application problems and recommend modifications.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals using automation to ensure appropriate, effective usage and understanding of the system.
- University degree in Health Informatics or a related field, Master's preferred, or minimum of five years of clinical experience with certification in Clinical Informatics.
- Registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario or an equivalent allied health professional is an asset.
- HIS knowledge and experience.
- Minimum of three years working experience in a healthcare setting in clinical informatics or a related discipline.
- Knowledge and training in adult education and/or demonstrated skill in teaching/facilitating is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability in project management, change management knowledge and experience, conceptual and analytical skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and consultation skills to function within a complex interdisciplinary environment.
