We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Pharmacy Assistant to join our team at Fraser Health. As a Pharmacy Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting our pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in ensuring the safe and efficient dispensing of medications to our patients.
Key Responsibilities- Assist pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in measuring, packaging, and distributing medications, as well as maintaining related records and stock levels.
- Count and measure medications, fill containers or unit dose packages, and compound medications as required.
- Distribute checked and verified medications to patient care units, as directed.
- Pre-package oral, liquid, topical, and mini-bag with integrated vial assembly medications into unit-of-use format and maintain related records.
- Deliver ward supplies and other stock requirements, maintain inventory and wardstock levels, and fill wardstock and narcotic requisitions.
- Identify beyond-use-dated drugs to be returned or destroyed by checking stock for expiry dates.
- Maintain department work areas by ensuring tidiness and order, and stock pharmaceuticals, labels, containers, and glassware in accordance with established procedures and standards.
- Perform clerical duties such as typing, answering the phone, filing, and maintaining records of drug and medication use and costs.
- Grade 12 graduation from a recognized Pharmacy Assistant course, plus one year of recent related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to deal with others effectively.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to type.
- Ability to organize work.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
