Strategic Governance Director

The Oakville Soccer Club, a thriving not-for-profit organization, is seeking dedicated professionals to serve on its volunteer Board of Directors.
As a key member of the governance team, you will contribute your expertise to help steer the club's future, ensuring its continued growth and success. The Board of Directors provides overarching guidance and oversight to the organization, establishing and monitoring high-level objectives, policies, and mission alignment.
This strategic role does not involve day-to-day operational activities, but rather focuses on maintaining the club's long-term success, financial sustainability, and ethical conduct. Your commitment to using your skills to benefit the organization and community is essential.
We are looking for passionate individuals with professional skills in areas such as government relations, human resources, governance, legal compliance, or other relevant fields. A love for soccer is welcome, but not necessary.
Your responsibilities will include attending scheduled Board Meetings, participating in committee work, and representing the club at flagship events. This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on the future of amateur sports in Oakville.
Key qualifications include:
- Government Relations & Advocacy: understanding of local government structures and policies, ability to cultivate relationships with local officials
- Human Resources & Organizational Development: experience in performance management, talent development, and executive coaching
- Governance, Legal & Compliance: strong understanding of legal principles, corporate governance, and compliance matters

This is a volunteer position with a time commitment of approximately 2.5 hours per month, plus ad-hoc meetings and quarterly committee work. Board terms are three years, with directors permitted to serve two terms.
