Genetic Counsellor, Hereditary Cancer
BC Cancer is seeking a skilled Genetic Counsellor to join our Hereditary Cancer Program. As a member of our team, you will play a critical role in providing genetic counselling to patients and their families, helping them navigate the complexities of hereditary cancer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct in-depth interviews with patients and their family members to gather medical and family history.
- Explain the hereditary cancer pattern in the patient's family and the associated cancer risks.
- Recommend cancer screening based on family history and standard guidelines.
- Explain genetic susceptibility testing and its potential benefits and harms.
- Coordinate genetic testing and counselling with external centres as needed.
- Refer patients to relevant health professionals as necessary.
- Document patient information, including medical history, risk assessments, and cancer surveillance strategies.
Requirements:
- Master's degree in Genetic Counselling from an accredited program.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in genetic counselling or a related field.
- Board eligibility or certification with the Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors or the American Board of Genetic Counselling.
