About the Job:


This position is responsible for teaching American Sign Language (ASL) to Deaf and hard of hearing adults. The instructor will develop curriculum, prepare teaching materials, and assess student progress. This role also involves upholding college policies and procedures, participating in meetings and events, and consulting with other departments.


Required Skills and Qualifications:


To be successful in this role, you will need:



  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Visual-gestural communication skills
  • Ability to teach ASL to Deaf and hard of hearing adults
  • Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) curriculum and adaptation for Deaf and hard of hearing adults
  • American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI) Level 4.5 from Canadian Cultural Society of the Deaf (CCSD) (or DEAF Inc. Level 9)
  • Provincial ASL Instructor Certificate (BC) or equivalent
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with staff and students
  • Experience in delivering instruction within the subject area to newcomers to Canada who may have no ASL or English
  • ASLICE certification or American Sign Language Teachers Association (ASLTA) equivalent
