About the Role

We are seeking an Indigenous Cultural Youth Care Worker to join our team in Bella Bella. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide support services to designated clients within the Youth Mental Health & Substance Use program. You will work from a two-eyed seeing approach, using land-based interventions in collaboration with Indigenous Elders and the team to provide treatment services to Indigenous youth with serious mental health and substance use issues.

You will collaborate with the team to develop, implement, maintain, and adjust treatment plans and assist clients to develop and achieve goals outlined within their individualized treatment plan. You will also facilitate the use of community services/resources by acting as an advocate to facilitate the transition to partnered community services.

Qualifications and Skills

To be successful in this role, you must have a Bachelor's degree in Child and Youth Care or an equivalent health-related discipline. You should have two years' recent related experience working with Indigenous youth/young adults experiencing significant mental health, substance use, and trauma in an interdisciplinary healthcare setting using cultural and traditional practices.

You should have demonstrated knowledge of the principles of recovery in mental health and substance use, as well as colonial laws, policies, and practices that have negatively impacted Indigenous Peoples. Additionally, you should have a working knowledge of salutogenic approaches to health and wellness, decolonizing approaches to healthcare, and Indigenous-specific cultural interventions for mental health and substance use.
