Job Summary
Under the direction of the Culinary Program Manager, the Community Mental Health Worker is responsible for the day-to-day running of the program, providing support and advocacy services, social, recreational, and facilitating goal and exit plans with participants. The Community Mental Health Worker will act as a guide in helping individuals pursue their next steps in their employment journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and facilitate PSR-based programs to a group of individuals with mental health, physical health, substance use, and homelessness needs.
- Provide support and advocacy services to participants, including crisis de-escalation skills.
- Act as a champion of the program, promoting services throughout community liaisons and networking events.
- Work with individuals who are marginalized, underserved, and at risk of homelessness or homelessness.
- Work with individuals living with substance misuse issues and/or untreated mental illness.
Requirements
- Diploma in Community Social Service or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Previous experience working in the hospitality and culinary industry.
- Recent, related experience of two years.
- Ability to provide or obtain the following upon hire:
- Certificates in First Aid + CPR, WHMIS.
- Ministry of Justice Criminal Record Clearance.
Knowledge and Abilities
- Knowledge of mental health, health, employment, and housing issues, as well as local community resources for accessing these supports.
- Demonstrated ability in crisis de-escalation skills applied in a team setting.
- Ability to work effectively independently and in cooperation with others.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Ability to observe and recognize changes in clients.
- Demonstrated ability to facilitate groups.
