About the Captain Role

The Captain is a key member of our City Cruises team, responsible for ensuring the safety and security of our crew and passengers while operating Transport Canada inspected passenger vessels.

Key Responsibilities

  • Rotate as cruise captain on cruises and ensure adherence to procedures detailed in the Product Management Guide.
  • Gather pertinent cruise event details from other departments to ensure special guest requests are fulfilled.
  • Conduct pre-cruise meetings and communicate to crew all necessary information regarding the cruise.
  • Ensure that staff and guests adhere to all safety standards and procedures.
  • Participate in the execution of the Safety Management System (SMS), including emergency drills.
  • Monitor all of the ship's systems and boarding facilities to ensure proper maintenance.
  • Ensure adherence to Transport Canada rules and regulations, and other federal and local rules and regulations.
  • Execute other projects as assigned by management.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent as recognized by the Ministry of Education.
  • Must currently possess a master limited for a vessel of 60 gross tonnage or more license, higher license preferred.
  • Current Marine Basic First Aid certification.
  • Valid passport to enter the United States.
  • Current Transport Canada approved marine medical certification.
  • Minimum of five years of marine experience with an outstanding record.
  • Detailed working knowledge of all ship's systems and their proper maintenance.
  • Ability to operate vessel in accordance with all Transport Canada rules and procedures.
  • Vessel handling and navigation knowledge required.
  • Able to communicate effectively in oral and written form.
  • Able to effectively deal with internal and external guests.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities/tasks.
