Job Description
The successful candidate will be responsible for completing day-to-day tasks by meeting or exceeding corporate and project goals for safety, quality, profitability, and schedule. This includes welding and repairing railroad track assets in a heavy construction, live rail environment using stick and wire-feed welding and grinding processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Emphasize and promote a strong safety culture while adhering to industry and company policies and procedures.
- Supervise working crews responsible for completing assigned tasks.
- Examine job specifications, prepare equipment and materials, and execute repairs in a timely manner.
- Perform railway-related track repairs, utilizing various grinding and welding methods specific to the railroad welding manual.
- Repair and replace defective equipment parts as required.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- A minimum of 3 years of welding experience in a heavy industrial environment is considered an asset.
- Thorough knowledge of welding materials and properties of various types of metals.
- Experience with MIG and stick welding.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to interpret assembly drawings and detailed welding prints.
- Ability to recommend cost-effective means for repair and understand safety policies, rules, and regulations.
- Familiarity with conformal frog repairs is considered an asset.
Working Conditions
- Frequently works in a live rail environment, exposed to all weather conditions, including very hot and very cold temperatures.
- Exposed to loud noise and high voltage.
- Able to work rotating shifts and be shift flexible to support the railway's needs.
