About the Role:
This is a regular part-time support staff position within the Centre of Access Programs at Lambton College. The successful candidate will work 24 hours per week at an hourly rate of $26.46. This is a less than 12 month position, meaning it is a permanent role working 8 months of the year, typically from the last week of August to the last week of April.
Key Responsibilities:
The Learning Specialist will assist students to maximize their learning potential by advocating, intervening, and acting on their behalf with faculty, other students, and College-wide services. This includes modifying course materials, tests, and assignments in collaboration with faculty, developing and recommending policies and procedures for the administration of the work unit, and providing data to decision makers to inform their decisions.
Qualifications and Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have a two-year Educational Assistant diploma, Developmental Service Worker diploma, Child and Youth Worker diploma, or Social Service Worker Diploma, or 2-3 years of experience in carpentry or welding. They will also have 1-3 years of experience working with persons with developmental disabilities, persons with significant learning challenges, and experience in the teaching/tutoring environment. Mental health training is an asset, as is knowledge and experience utilizing educational/learning strategies, Microsoft Teams, and D2L. The successful candidate will possess advocacy skills, a willingness to participate in marketing events, and excellent interpersonal communication skills with a high degree of professionalism, diplomacy, and patience.
