We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technologist I to join our team in Clinical Chemistry, Routine Chemistry. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing manual and automated procedures, evaluating and verifying results, and entering analytical data into the Laboratory Information System.
Key Responsibilities- Participate in day-to-day work activities by performing manual and automated procedures in assigned work areas.
- Evaluate and verify results and take follow-up action of any unexpected results according to established procedures.
- Enter analytical data into the Laboratory Information System.
- Respond to requests and inquiries for tests and seek direction as required from the Supervisor, Assistant Head Technologist, or Head Technologist.
- Perform all related functions required for the production of final reports, including preparing, testing, and assessing quality control results prior to release of clinical results.
- Set up, calibrate, and operate laboratory equipment and perform and document maintenance of laboratory equipment as scheduled.
- Participate in quality assurance programs through methods such as gathering data on turn-around times for test procedures and monitoring performance and quality indicators.
- Provide input in the development and maintenance of policy and procedures for assigned work areas and make recommendations for changes.
- Assist with information management, such as workload statistics, through methods such as gathering information, completing analysis, and recording information.
- Demonstrate laboratory procedures to students and technologists.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Certification with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
- Graduation from a recognized program in Medical Laboratory Technology, plus one (1) year recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Demonstrates interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrates attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Demonstrates ability to be self-motivated, manage time, and work independently.
- Demonstrates ability to operate related equipment and use related software.
- Demonstrates physical ability to perform the job.
- Knowledge of and technical competence to perform tests used in the assigned section of the laboratory.
- Knowledge of computerized laboratory information systems.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act.
