As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the health, safety, and environmental well-being of our employees, contractors, and the communities we serve.

The Site HSE Coordinator will support all functions of the HSE team from bidding, preparation, drafting procedures and plans as well as active support on the execution of construction projects across Canada.

The incumbent will work closely with our project teams to ensure a safe work environment for all, and will be responsible for implementing and maintaining our HSE Management System.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Ensure fulfillment of HSE requirements at construction sites, following health, safety, and environmental (HSE) plans in compliance with Company standards, customer requirements, and Government regulations;
  • Support Site teams for HSE management and safety instructions implementation for our workers and partners;
  • Support the implementation of the HSE Management System on all projects and across all departments within the organization;
  • Collaborate with project teams to prepare weekly and monthly statistics HSE reports;
  • Provide assistance in identification of risks and definition of control measures (through safe work procedure, Job Safety Analysis);
  • Carry out and record regular safety checks and safety inspections across the project portfolio;
  • Provide assistance in preparing Weekly Safety Meetings, HSE Bulletins, Focus initiatives;
  • Support the investigation of accidents and incidents; performs Root Cause Analysis on HSE issues;
  • Provide introduction training and site-specific health, safety, and environmental training;
  • Coordinate required safety training for project sites (as applicable);
  • Prepare and coordinate emergency and rescue drills, First Aid, Confined Space, Emergency Preparedness, and Fire Protection programs;
  • Propose immediate correction of a HSE deficiency; checks if HSE corrections from deficiency are effective;
  • Ensure OHSAS 18001, ISO 14001, and COR programs are maintained at site;
  • Support execution of internal audits in construction sites and facilities and coordinate external audits;
  • Coordinate with Workers Compensation as required;
  • Collaborate with Site HSE Officer as applicable;
  • Collaborate with HSE Operations Manager for business update on HSE Management System.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an active HSE position;
  • University degree in Health and Safety or equivalent;
  • Knowledge of Construction Safety Regulations;
  • Experience in dealing with unionized environments;
  • Experience working on construction sites (Hydro power plant – a strong asset);
  • Strong communication skills (spoken & written) at all levels of the organization;
  • Leadership skills, Team Player following Company common Goals;
  • Proven Auditor and Trainer skills;
  • Excellent problem-solving skills (root cause analysis expertise), sound judgment, initiative & creativity;
  • Willingness to travel and flexible with work schedule.
