At TEEMA Group, we are seeking a skilled Braillist to join our team. As a Braillist, you will play a crucial role in assisting teachers and other certificated staff with instructional and non-instructional activities for visually impaired students.
Responsibilities:- Implement instructional programs designed by certificated staff, ensuring a tailored approach to meet the needs of visually impaired students.
- Instruct students, individually or in small groups, in a variety of subjects, utilizing adaptive technology aids and equipment to support academic activities.
- Compile, review, and record student assignments and progress, maintaining accurate records and communicating effectively with school and program staff.
- Perform consistent follow-through activities with visually impaired students, promoting independence and self-advocacy.
- Instruct students in self-care activities, reinforcing daily living skills, appropriate social skills, and/or travel skills, ensuring a smooth transition to independence.
- Use adaptive technology aids/equipment to support academic activities, including Braille reading and writing aids and computer-generated Braille materials, staying up-to-date with the latest technologies and techniques.
- Adapt a variety of classroom materials to meet the needs of visually impaired students, such as enlarging materials, preparing tactile materials, and preparing audiotapes, ensuring equal access to educational resources.
- Monitor student progress and behavior, maintaining communication with school and program staff, and providing support and guidance as needed.
- Assist students in entering/leaving buildings, moving between classes, and boarding buses, determining the appropriate level of assistance to ensure a safe and smooth transition.
- Assist certificated staff with testing students, recording scores, and maintaining related files, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
- Other duties as assigned, requiring flexibility and a commitment to supporting the needs of visually impaired students.
- Knowledge of methods for working with visually impaired students, including Braille instruction and adaptive technology.
- Competency in Braille instruction, with the ability to teach students of varying skill levels.
- Ability to work independently and handle confidential matters, maintaining a high level of professionalism and discretion.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and other staff members.
- Dependable with good attendance and punctuality, with a commitment to meeting deadlines and delivering high-quality results.
- High school diploma or equivalent, with relevant education, experience, and training in working with visually impaired students.
- One year of experience with visually impaired or multi-disabled children, with a strong understanding of their unique needs and challenges.
- Relevant education, experience, and training, including completion of 10 hours of continuing education in Braille competency or an accepted Braille competency test.
- Valid Washington State driver's license, with a clean driving record and the ability to transport students safely.
