Job Summary:We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Braillist to assist teachers and other certificated staff with instructional and non-instructional activities for visually impaired students. As a Braillist, you will be responsible for implementing instructional programs, instructing students, and adapting classroom materials to meet the needs of visually impaired students.
Responsibilities:- Implement instructional programs designed by certificated staff, ensuring that visually impaired students receive the support they need to succeed.
- Instruct students, individually or in small groups, in a variety of subjects, using adaptive technology aids and equipment to support academic activities.
- Compile, review, and record student assignments and progress, maintaining accurate records and communicating with school and program staff.
- Perform consistent follow-through activities with visually impaired students, providing ongoing support and guidance to ensure their success.
- Assist students in entering/leaving buildings, moving between classes, and boarding buses, determining the appropriate level of assistance.
- Assist certificated staff with testing students, recording scores, and maintaining related files.
- Other duties as assigned, including adapting classroom materials and using Braille reading and writing aids.
- Knowledge of methods for working with visually impaired students, including Braille instruction and adaptive technology.
- Competency in Braille instruction and the ability to work independently and handle confidential matters.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and other staff members.
- Dependable with good attendance and punctuality, and a high school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of experience with visually impaired or multi-disabled children, and relevant education, experience, and training.
- Completion of 10 hours of continuing education in Braille competency or an accepted Braille competency test, and a valid Washington State driver's license.
