Job Summary

The successful candidate will provide assistance to students with visual impairments, adapting classroom materials, and facilitating their educational journey. You will work closely with teachers, students, and other support staff to create a inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Transcribe written materials into Braille and interpret Braille for teachers
  • Transfer special format materials into tactile form and prepare materials in large print
  • Assist students with special skills areas, such as Braille, Nemeth code, and technology
  • Work directly with students to support regular class activities and implement behavior management programs
  • Maintain records related to student progress and administer, score, and record results of tests
Requirements
  • Grade 12 graduation and possession of a Special Education Teacher Assistant Certificate
  • Grade II Braille Certificate or equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to the varying needs of students
  • Emergency First Aid Certificate and ability to interact with students effectively
