About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Senior Labour Relations Specialist who will provide compliance and risk-based labour relations and employment law guidance and advice to the line organization and other members of Human Resources. This role works closely with Labour Relations Advisors to support first-level negotiations or step-1 grievances, conducting investigations, developing reports and providing advice and responds to requests for advice or interpretations.

The successful candidate will draft bargaining proposals, oversee the exchange of documents with the union, and track the University's positions. They will also manage Public Sector Employer Council (PSEC) costing spreadsheets and play a key role in process improvement and special projects within the Labour Relations unit.

Responsibilities

  • Provide labour relations and employment law guidance and advice to the line organization and HR colleagues.
  • Support first-level negotiations or step-1 grievances, conducting investigations, developing reports, and providing advice.
  • Draft bargaining proposals, oversee document exchange with the union, and track the University's positions.
  • Manage PSEC costing spreadsheets and contribute to process improvement and special projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Human Resources Management or equivalent discipline and three years of related experience in labour relations.
  • Excellent knowledge of labour and employment legislation and government policies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills (oral, written, and presentation).
  • Able to interpret and apply collective agreements and associated policies and procedures effectively.
