Senior Ecologist/Biologist Role

About the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Ecologist/Biologist to join our Eastern Ecological Services Team in Guelph or Mississauga, Ontario. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership and expertise in ecological studies, field sampling, and data analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage complex ecological projects, including habitat and channel restoration, environmental assessment, and community infrastructure projects.
  • Collaborate with clients, approval agencies, sub-consultants, and subcontractors to deliver high-quality results.
  • Develop and implement business development strategies to grow our ecological services business line.
  • Provide technical input and support to junior and intermediate staff on various projects, including natural heritage assessments, environmental impact studies, and wildlife studies.
  • Design and execute complex biological investigations and oversee field surveys.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, proposals, cost estimates, and marketing materials.
  • Mentor and develop junior and intermediate staff members.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 to 20+ years of consulting experience in a directly related role.
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in biology, environmental science, or a related field with a focus on aquatic biology, ecology, soil science, and/or toxicology.
  • Business development experience backed by a superior track record of building productive client relationships.
  • Strong project management skills, including developing and monitoring of budgets, approved project scope and schedule, organizational skills, staff supervision, and team communications.
  • Technical abilities in the areas of ecological study design, field sampling protocols, statistical analysis, and report preparation and review.
  • Familiarity with pertinent regulatory requirements and processes.
  • Ability to work on a variety of projects in various sectors, including urban, transportation, infrastructure, oil and gas, wind, and hydropower.
  • Strong organizational skills with the demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, plan, schedule, and coordinate various activities relating to projects and proposal submissions.
  • Ability to register as a planner (RPP/MCIP), professional agrologist, or professional biologist or considered an asset.
  • Valid G class driver's license is required.
