Extendicare Canada Inc. is seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team in a Full Time Nights position. As an LPN, you will be responsible for providing high-quality resident care, collaborating with the healthcare team, and ensuring the well-being of our residents.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the development and maintenance of care standards and objectives.
- Supervise Health Care Aide staff and perform direct resident care in accordance with policy and procedures.
- Maintain resident health care records and perform charting duties ensuring that records are informative, accurate, and current.
- Admit new residents and orientate new residents and their families to all aspects of the facility.
- Participate in regular reviews of resident care plans with members of the healthcare team.
- Participate in the orientation of new staff and the supervision of Health Care Aide's on the unit.
- Monitor and report changes in the resident's physical or mental condition to the Nursing Coordinators/delegates.
- Order prescribed medications, transcribe physician orders, ensure physician's telephone orders cosigned, and regularly review treatments with attending physicians.
- Assist in scheduling resident appointments, including visits to the Podiatrist and other visiting professionals.
- Monitor the use and maintenance of supplies and equipment in the Nursing Department.
- Currently licensed with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Manitoba.
- Possesses sufficient practical experience to satisfactorily perform the responsibilities of the position.
- Mentally and physically able to perform duties as outlined.
- Knowledgeable in the principles and philosophy of long term care.
- Ability to supervise and direct the work of others.
- Demonstrates concern and interest in providing quality care to residents.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and complete assignments in a timely manner.
- Ability to communicate with other staff, residents, families, and the public.
- Experience 1 year in a Long Term Care setting, 1 year clinical, supervisory experience.
- SWAT certification obtained from WRHA/equivalent or to be obtained with employment.
- MDS/computer skills.
