About this role

As an Energy Management Systems Specialist, you will play a critical role in designing and implementing energy-efficient solutions for commercial and institutional buildings. You will be responsible for integrating the control of various heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) and mechanical equipment under a central monitoring and control system, known as the Building Automation System (BAS). Your tasks include creating shop drawings, including control schematics, wiring diagrams, schedules, bill of materials lists, and sequence of operations for installation, programming, and commissioning purposes.

  • You will review project documentation such as specifications, mechanical, and electrical drawings to create control drawings according to customer design standards.
  • Review project documentation like equipment shop-drawings, mechanical plans, and specifications to identify any equipment compatibility issues and design discrepancies.
  • You will communicate any issues with the design of equipment shop-drawings, mechanical plans, and specifications, as well as alternate design recommendations to engineering consultants for clarification/approval.
  • You will select materials including DDC modules, field sensing, and control devices, dampers, valves, and actuators to meet project requirements, specifications, codes, and customer standards.
  • You will write sequence of operations based on HVAC principles relating to temperature, humidity, and flow control (both hydronic and air flow) and according to building codes and ASHRAE standards.
  • You will coordinate design requirements with the Project Manager and field team to provide a cost-effective design solution.
  • You will complete each assigned project focusing on customer satisfaction and specification compliance while trying to maintain budgetary guidelines covered in sales estimates.
  • You will identify all projects that do not meet budget and itemize the budget variances.
  • You will manage material procurement, requesting quotations, and submitting material order forms for all project required materials to the purchasing group.
  • You will assist the sales team in pre-bid meetings and evaluation of tender drawings to capture project scope.
  • You will propose energy-saving opportunities to the client wherever applicable.
  • You will conduct site visits and collaborate with clients and contractors on technical issues.
  • You will develop commissioning checklists for the field team to follow and record observations during start-up and commissioning of BAS systems.
  • You will issue Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Manuals for supplied systems, equipment, and devices.

Key Responsibilities

The estimated salary for this position is around $80,000-$110,000 per year, depending on experience and location. Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a College Diploma in one of the following disciplines: Building Automation Systems / Electrical / Controls and Automation / HVAC.
  • 3+ years experience with HVAC and/or BAS (Building Automation System Protocols): BACnet/MSTP, BACnet/IP, Modbus.
  • 3+ years experience with Computer Networking Systems.
  • 3+ years experience with DDC (Direct Digital Control Systems) and applications pertaining to the HVAC/Control.
  • 3+ years experience with CAD Tools (preferably with Visio, or with any similar CAD tool: example: AutoCAD)
  • 5+ years experience with Microsoft Suite (Ms Word, Excel) at a proficient level.
  • 1+ years experience with Building Automation System Programming.
