Compassionate Personal Care Assistant

As a Personal Care Assistant, you will deliver essential support for all daily living activities while adhering to corporate policies, established standards, and recognized nursing practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist registered nursing staff with diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.
  2. Ensure timely and accurate documentation in compliance with corporate policies.
  3. Deliver a holistic and quality approach to resident care, aligned with RhynoCare's Mission, Vision, Values, and the Resident Bill of Rights.
  4. Support residents during meal services.
  5. Facilitate restorative nursing efforts.
  6. Collaborate effectively to ensure comprehensive resident care throughout your shifts.
  7. Implement care in accordance with current legislation, best practices, and corporate policies.
  8. Engage in the agency's risk management initiatives related to resident care.
  9. Contribute to quality improvement programs focused on resident care.
  10. Maintain accurate and complete documentation for all care provided during assigned shifts, following relevant regulations and internal standards.
  11. Participate in mentoring new staff and students, promoting educational growth.
  12. Attend departmental, interdisciplinary team, and resident safety meetings.
  13. Encourage effective communication and teamwork among shifts and staff.
  14. Adhere to all health and safety protocols, including:
    1. Practicing proper body mechanics in daily tasks, especially when using technology.
    2. Utilizing equipment according to manufacturer guidelines.
    3. Following established safety procedures for lockouts.
    4. Wearing appropriate safety gear and PPE as required.

Qualifications:

  1. Must be at least 18 years old.
  2. Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  3. Proficiency in a second language is advantageous.
  4. Must fulfill one of the following criteria:
    1. Successful completion of a Ministry of Education approved PSW Training Program (minimum 640 hours) from a recognized Community College or an institution endorsed by the National Association of Career Colleges OR
    2. Completion of Year 1 in RN, RPN, Paramedic, Occupational Therapy, or Physiotherapy programs.
  5. Experience as a Facility PSW is beneficial.
  6. Negative T.B. skin test or chest x-ray required.
  7. Current CPR (BCLS) and First Aid certification.
  8. Must meet health surveillance requirements as per the Public Hospitals Act.
  9. Vulnerable Sector Screening within the past year confirming no criminal history.
