Substation Technologist

We are seeking a highly skilled Substation Technologist to join our Transmission Field Operations team in Red Deer. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of AltaLink's transmission substations in Alberta.

• Operate, inspect, and maintain substation equipment associated with the AltaLink transmission system.
• Provide maintenance planning, scheduling, and information to AltaLink Control Center staff regarding equipment status and recommend improvements or replacements.
• Trouble response for station facilities in the area.
• Assist and support other disciplines as required.
• Assist the Substations team on Capital upgrade and replacement work.
• Develop and implement a plan for substation work, including review and understanding of work packages and related work practices, procedures, policies, and regulations.
• Ensure development and documentation of Safe Work Plans as required.
• Coordinate and provide emergency response to system emergencies as required.

• Graduation from a related and recognized Technologist Diploma program in Electrical Technology or Power System Electrician Journeyman Certificate.
• Proven ability and experience in the above-noted responsibilities.
• Competence and comfort working with computers and spreadsheets.
• Willingness to develop skills and a career in the Substation Technologist discipline.
• Effective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills to interface with team members and customers to promote positive outcomes.
• Ability to work as part of a team and independently.
• Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to work within strict deadlines.
• Demonstrated willingness to work safely and show concern for environmental, health, and safety issues in the workplace.
• Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
• Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and comfortable working at heights.
• Valid Class 5 driver's license.
• Physically demanding position requiring good physical condition, manual dexterity, and physical coordination.
