About AMS of UBC:

The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the University of British Columbia's student society, working to improve academic, social, and personal lives of 56,000 UBC students at its Vancouver campus.

We run nine food and beverage outlets, a catering and conference operation, and the AMS Student Nest, providing on-campus employment opportunities and generating revenue that goes directly back into supporting students at UBC.

About the Role:

As an Event Manager, you will be part of our Events team responsible for coordinating Block Party, our annual Last-Day-of-Class concert. This involves managing all aspects of the event, from booking top-tier talent to logistics and ensuring a memorable experience for attendees.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with UBC Campus partners to secure permits and ensure post-event clean-up
  • Manage the Block Party budget
  • Arrange for event fencing, bar services, porta-potties, first aid, and security services
  • Create an event emergency and safety plan and have it approved by key stakeholders
  • Develop and execute a sponsorship plan
  • Develop and execute a ticket and promotional strategy
  • Develop and execute an accessibility plan
  • Assist in hiring and management of event staff and volunteers

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years' experience in a similar role
  • Proven track-record of organizing large-scale events with logistics, scheduling, and coordination
  • Ability to identify genres and artists appealing to a university audience
  • Strong financial acumen to manage budgets, control costs, and maximize revenue
  • Expertise in creating and implementing marketing strategies to drive ticket sales
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to think on your feet and handle unexpected challenges
  • Leadership and motivational skills to achieve event goals
  • Safety and risk management experience
  • Familiarity with concert technology, including sound, lighting, and stage setup

Compensation:

$30.00 per hour
