We are seeking a talented Canine Development Specialist to join our team at the CNIB Foundation. This exciting role will involve working with puppies, trainers, and other stakeholders to ensure the best possible outcomes for our canine partners.

About the Role
  • This is a full-time permanent position based in Toronto or Ottawa, Ontario, with some flexibility to work from home.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for recruiting, interviewing, and selecting puppy raisers and boarders, ensuring they have the necessary resources to care for our puppies.
  • They will also train and support these volunteers throughout their puppy-raising careers, providing guidance on best practices and performance management.

As a Canine Development Specialist, you will assess, monitor, and record the social, educational, temperamental, and physical development of our puppies. You will maintain accurate documentation, including progress and health records, and collaborate with our Program Lead, Puppy Development Trainer, and Manager, Apprenticeships and Staff Education to plan, organize, and conduct training classes.

Requirements
  • You should have a high school diploma or equivalent, with certification in an appropriate subject desirable. Accredited learning in animal welfare or behavior, people management, teaching, or mentoring is also beneficial.
  • A valid driver's license and eligibility to work in Canada are essential.
  • Prior experience supervising a puppy raising club, animal welfare or behavior, people management, teaching, or mentoring is advantageous.

In this role, you will demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, communicate effectively, and apply theoretical knowledge practically. You will work independently as a team player, able to apply a professional approach and comply with policies and procedures.

Work Environment
  • You will be required to meet the demands of the training program, which may include work hours, travel, and overnight stays away from home.
  • Comfortable with dogs in the workplace, you will be expected to support promotional events and other duties as required.
