This position will report locally to the Toronto, ON, Canada office Engineering Manager. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, technically oriented individual with a desire to learn and apply current design skills required for the review and approval of Aerial permitting and OSP telecommunications design projects. Under limited supervision, they will perform pole loading calculations using Spidacalc and Quickpole and create permit drawings using AutoCAD.

The associate will conduct research, read and interpret field data, land base maps, civil blueprints, survey documents, and field sketches. They will compare the information contained on maps/drawings with network facility records and information from governmental and geographical resources, including data and measurements collected from the field to develop and complete pole line designs to support FTTH projects, BAU, and relocation, as well as MDU projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Experience in civil, structural, mechanical engineering/construction, architecture (desired), and telecommunications industry (strongly desired).
  • A very good understanding of basic computer concepts and technology is required, along with expertise in Quickpole, SpidaCalc, OCalc, and PLS CAD.
  • Knowledge of Fiber backbone (F1) and distribution networks (F2), 5G/Smart City high-level designs is strongly preferred. Knowledge of permitting processes (highway, railroad, city, county, etc.) is also essential.
