Anesthesia Assistant Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Anesthesia Assistant to join our team at Fraser Health. As a key member of our healthcare team, the Anesthesia Assistant plays a vital role in providing technical support and clinical assistance to our anesthesiologists during surgical procedures.
Key Responsibilities- Provides technical support and clinical assistance to anesthesiologists during surgical procedures, ensuring the highest level of patient care and safety.
- Maintains, operates, and calibrates anesthesiology equipment, including cell-saving and related equipment, to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
- Monitors patient physiological responses during surgery and maintains accurate records, providing critical information to anesthesiologists and other healthcare professionals.
- Assists with and/or performs duties involving pre-induction, arterial line catheterization, endotracheal intubation, central line insertion, autotransfusion, and pulmonary artery catheter insertion, demonstrating expertise and precision.
- Administers inhaled medications, monitors patient airways, and adjusts ventilation modalities as required, ensuring the best possible outcomes for patients.
- Assists with airway emergencies and cardiac arrests in the Operating Room and Post Anesthetic Care Unit, providing critical care and support to patients and healthcare teams.
- Provides ventilatory support services for patients in the Post Anesthetic Care Unit, ensuring their comfort and safety.
- Maintains and calibrates anesthesia-related equipment throughout the hospital, ensuring optimal performance and minimizing downtime.
- Participates in anesthesia research and special projects, contributing to the advancement of anesthesia care and patient outcomes.
- Assists with the transfer and transportation of ventilated and monitored patients, ensuring their safety and comfort.
- Maintains and develops professional knowledge by attending educational/training events, staying up-to-date with the latest anesthesia techniques and best practices.
- Graduation from an accredited post-graduate diploma Anesthesia Assistant Program or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Eligible for membership with the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) and the British Columbia Society of Respiratory Therapy (BCSRT).
- Current certification in CPR, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).
- Comprehensive knowledge of current anesthesia assistant theory and practice.
- Broad knowledge of Canadian Anesthesiologists' Society clinical practice guidelines for Anesthesia Assistants.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and implement anesthesia-related plans of care.
- Demonstrated ability to assess client responses to care and respond appropriately.
- Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
