Salary

As per local 741 ATU Collective Agreement, the starting rate of this position is $29.50/hour, plus a night shift premium of $1.50/hour. After two years, the full rate increases to $34.47/hour.

Job Description

This role involves working as a lead hand when assigned, responsible for the servicing and cleaning of fleet vehicles. Key tasks include:

  • Minor repairs to vehicles, such as replacing lights, mirrors, wipers, etc.
  • Assisting skilled tradespersons as required.
  • Performing routine maintenance tasks, including changing engine, transmission, differential, and cooling system fluids, as well as replenishing hydraulic fluids and lubricating fleet vehicles.
  • Removing and replacing wheels and rims on fleet vehicles, subject to completion of appropriate training.
  • Carrying out service calls, bus change-offs, and out-of-service calls.
  • Washing and cleaning plant, equipment, and fleet vehicles.
  • Grounds maintenance, scrap and garbage removal, and maintenance of plant equipment as required.
  • Operating (with proper training) forklifts, skid steers, bobcats, sweepers, and scrubbers.
  • Shoveling snow and salting sidewalks as needed.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • A valid G-class Ontario driver's license with zero demerit points (the LTC will assist in upgrading to a C-class license).
  • An Air Brake Endorsement (Z), which must be obtained prior to the start date.
  • One year of hands-on basic mechanical skills, experience working on vehicles, and proficiency in using power tools.
  • A Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent.
  • The ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • The ability to work midnight shifts from 11 PM to 7 AM.
