About the Role

Actalent is seeking a skilled Transportation Dispatcher to lead our team in ensuring timely deliveries and maintaining effective communication with customers and drivers.

Job Responsibilities
  • Coordinate driver runs for afternoon and evening deliveries, prioritizing efficiency and productivity.
  • Review emails and respond to dispatch-related inquiries, providing clear and concise information.
  • Input driver runs into Truckmate, accurately documenting all necessary details.
  • Collaborate with drivers to coordinate arrival and departure of city P&D, I/B, and O/B linehaul, ensuring seamless operations.
  • Print manifests and working copies as needed, maintaining accurate records.
  • Check in drivers, verifying that all PODs and related documents are returned, and ensure all pickups are assigned and covered.
  • Provide exceptional customer service over the phone, addressing pick-up entries or inquiries in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Handle any driver issues that arise, resolving conflicts promptly and fairly.
  • Validate city pickups and print dock stickers, maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Review drivers' pickups to ensure pictures are taken and uploaded in Vector, verifying compliance with company policies.
  • Ensure timely delivery to grocery warehouses, prioritizing efficient routing and scheduling.
  • Monitor and control driver hours, ensuring they are efficient on the road and meeting company standards.
  • Answer phone calls from customers and customer service related to dispatch, providing clear and concise information.
  • Handle outside carriers dropping off or picking up shipments, coordinating logistics as needed.
  • Call in interline bills and set up pickups for interline carriers, maintaining accurate records.
  • Plan next morning's deliveries for 5-Ton trucks, ensuring all appointments are covered and drivers are informed.
  • Arrange any necessary swampers for drivers for the next day or evening, optimizing resource allocation.
  • Assist the dock with closing trailers and advise Central Dispatch when loads are ready, streamlining operations.
Requirements
  • 1-2 years of dispatching experience, with a strong understanding of transportation logistics.
  • 1-2 years of administrative or data entry experience, with proficiency in MS Office.
  • Strong command of the English language, with excellent communication and writing skills.
  • High school education, with a focus on mathematics and problem-solving.
  • Geographical knowledge of the lower mainland, with familiarity with local roads and highways.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in the trucking industry, with knowledge of industry regulations and best practices.
  • Familiarity with Truck Mate (TMW) software, with the ability to navigate complex systems.
  • Experience in the 3PL industry, with a strong understanding of logistics and supply chain management.
Work Environment

The work schedule is Monday through Friday from 10:00 to 18:30, with a transit-accessible workplace and parking available.
