Job Summary

The Fraser Health Authority is seeking a skilled MRI Technologist to join our team at Abbotsford Regional Hospital & Cancer Centre. As a key member of our Medical Imaging department, you will be responsible for performing MRI examinations, operating computerized imaging equipment, and ensuring the highest level of patient care.

Responsibilities
  1. Perform MRI examinations in accordance with established procedures, including completing requisitions, positioning patients, and explaining clinical procedures.
  2. Monitor patients during procedures, responding to possible contrast media reactions or other emergent situations, and performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation as needed.
  3. Conduct image studies using MRI equipment and departmental information systems, checking patient identification, collating images with requisitions, and requesting previous studies.
  4. Facilitate the workflow of designated work areas, checking information on requisitions, regulating inpatient examination time, and arranging departmental and/or facility porters.
  5. Perform quality control duties, scheduling and performing equipment tests, recording results, and identifying malfunctioning equipment for repair.
  6. Participate in the departmental Continuous Quality Improvement/LEAN programs, using established monitoring and auditing methodologies to perform quality assurance checks.
  7. Maintain designated work areas, checking and cleaning equipment, setting up examination trays, receiving and stocking supplies, and identifying depleted items for notification.
  8. Demonstrate procedures and usage of equipment to staff, including medical residents, technologists, and students, and participate in the orientation of new employees.
  9. Participate in maintaining patient and hospital records, entering data into the radiology and hospital information systems as required.
  10. Respond to inquiries from other clinical areas regarding patient examinations and schedules, and refer other concerns to appropriate supervisors as needed.
  11. Determine workload measurements and compile workload statistical reports and other reports as required, making recommendations to the Director on how services may be improved.
  12. Ensure that the department meets Health and Safety rules, regulations, and practices, updating department staff on changes to safety procedures, following up on safety recommendations, and ensuring that staff are adequately trained and authorized to operate machinery and equipment.
  13. Participate in approved research and special projects in collaboration with supervisors and other healthcare professionals.
  14. Maintain equipment by monitoring its operation and making arrangements for maintenance and repairs as required.
  15. Carry out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements, immediately reporting unsafe situations to supervisors or other appropriate personnel.
Qualifications

Certification with CAMRT (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is required, along with completion of Intravenous Therapy training course when required by site practice and one year recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification - Basic Life Support (BLS) level is also required.

The ideal candidate will possess demonstrated knowledge of standards of practice and guidelines for Medical Imaging practitioners established by the CAMRT and/or other relevant national professional associations, as well as evidence-based practice related to designated modality. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
