About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Multimedia Evidence Specialist to join our team at the Halton Regional Police Service. As a key member of our Regional Investigative Services Team, you will play a pivotal role in supporting our service's evolving audio-visual and computer multi-media technical support.

Job Description

The Multimedia Evidence Specialist is responsible for providing expert advice to all units of the Halton Regional Police Service on the operation of software, hardware, and equipment used for multimedia evidence analysis. You will work closely with skilled investigators to implement cutting-edge initiatives that empower our strategic units to revolutionize the way policing utilizes next-generation technical support solutions.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Providing audio-visual and computer multi-media technical support and advice to all units of the Halton Regional Police Service.
  • Analyzing, processing, enhancing, and maintaining multimedia evidence for criminal investigations and court testimony.
  • Attending crime scenes or relevant locations to gather video evidence for Police use.
  • Collecting, analyzing, and preparing video evidence for court proceedings.
  • Utilizing enhanced imaging software to produce forensically sound video evidence.
  • Assisting Uniform Patrol, Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) and Regional Investigative Services (RIS) officers with processing and analysis of multimedia evidence and video systems.
  • Forensically processing, capturing, and/or enhancing various images and/or video which may become evidence in Court.
  • Recording accurate logs of analysis work, preparing presentations, and reports on evidence and technical issues.
  • Maintaining audio/video/digital records library by receiving and cataloguing new video.
  • Providing expert testimony in Court, as required, detailing explanations on how videotapes/digital video and images are recorded, compression of digital images, and date/time stamping.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A two-year community college diploma in video and television production, photography, or other related field, plus knowledge in analogue and digital video recording systems.
  • Two years' experience working with image processing software, editing software, cameras, and scanners.
  • Ability to import/view/extract images from given video using common CCTV viewing programs.
  • Ability to process/enhance/clarify images using an appropriate level of processing software.
  • Advanced computer knowledge/skills, familiar with the operation of computer-based editing and video processing systems.
  • Experience in processing digital images, basic knowledge of photography principles.
  • Prior knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Amped Five, Axon Investigate, or Magnet Witness software applications preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with editing, enhancing, and/or manipulating images on video recording systems considered an asset.
