About This Role

As a key member of the Sheridan Online Initiative, the Instructional Technologist plays a pivotal role in guiding faculty in the design, development, and integration of multimedia elements. This role demands a unique blend of creativity, technical proficiency, and instructional design principles to create engaging learning experiences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with instructional designers to design and develop learning objects;
  • Work with faculty to create high-quality multimedia content that aligns with learning objectives;
  • Develop script, edit videos and audio files for integration into learning experiences;
  • Create animations and develop interactive graphic elements.
  • Design storyboards and other assets for use within an agile project environment;
  • Provide training and support to faculty on creating and integrating multimedia content into their courses;
  • Develop guidelines, best practices, and resources for multimedia development;
  • Offer expert advice on the effective use of multimedia in teaching and learning;
  • Manage multimedia projects from conception through to delivery, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards;
  • Communicate with partners to ensure projects are on track and according to plan;
  • Meet regularly with the project team to ensure deadlines and deliverables are according to plan;
  • Assess and mitigate risk proactively and ensure clear communication with supervisors;
  • Conduct testing and quality assurance of multimedia elements to ensure compatibility with learning management systems (LMS) and AODA compliant.
  • Ensure all assets are of the highest design standards;
  • Create and implement data models that support ongoing quality course design;
  • Maintain and expand technical knowledge in multimedia software and tools, including video editing software, animation tools, and graphic design software using AI;
  • Guide faculty on the use of Artificial Intelligence for course design and course development;
  • Stay abreast of the latest trends and advancements in media technology;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


About You

You will have the skills and knowledge to work with an increasingly diverse student and staff population, as well as a proven commitment to anti-oppression, equity, and inclusion. Your research and analysis skills will facilitate the measurement, interpretation, and presentation of information in the most impactful way. You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to diverse audiences and communities. You will have a sound understanding of project management principles and tools, with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, balance, and manage multiple complex and competing demands.

Requirements
  • Minimum of a Post-Graduate Degree (e.g. Master's) in Instructional Technology or related field;
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in guiding faculty in course development technologies, collaborating with faculty in design and development of course assets at a program level using a variety of technologies including the LMS and AI (equivalencies to be considered);
  • Experience with designing and collecting data that informs design and development decisions and course quality – Data/Learning Analytics;
  • Experience with video & audio production and immersive technologies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presentation, analytical/critical thinking with the ability to prioritize projects and requests;
  • Ability to work as part of a team or independently with an agile mindset.
