Job Summary:

We are seeking a talented and motivated individual to join our team as a Layout Artist at Industrial Light & Magic's Jedi Academy. This paid 6-week placement provides the opportunity for recently graduated students or industry artists with up to two years of experience to train under our experienced professionals.

As a Layout Artist, you will be responsible for producing high-quality entry-level shot work for camera tracking, character matching, solving lens distortion, creative camera work, and deformation matching of surfaces. You will also replicate completed projects' shots to learn about Layout's all-encompassing skills sets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce high-quality entry-level shot work for camera tracking, character matching, solving lens distortion, creative camera work, and deformation matching of surfaces
  • Replicate completed projects' shots to learn about Layout's all-encompassing skills sets
  • Complete work within the timeframe bid
  • Strengthen professional habits, including best practices for presenting work in dailies, working as a team, and communicating effectively
  • Gain knowledge and appreciation of ILM's culture and history

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability in one or more CG techniques relevant to the layout discipline, including camera tracking, object and character matchanimating, animation, and/or motion capture cleanup
  • Understanding of photography and the effects of different lenses used in a variety of scenarios
  • Strong personal work that represents artist skills and interest in VFX
  • Strong teamwork, excellent communication, and interdisciplinary thinking
  • Interest in and ability to quickly pick up new software
  • Entry-level knowledge in some or all of the following software packages: Maya, PFTrack, 3dEqualizer, and Nuke. Comparable software experience considered
  • Knowledge of Linux a plus
  • Coding/Scripting knowledge (Python, Mel) a plus

Compensation:

The pay rate for this role is C$25.14 per hour. Select benefits may be provided as part of the compensation package, such as medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
