Job Title: Urban Planner Policy Analyst

About the Role

This exciting opportunity is part of the City Planning Division, where you will work closely with stakeholders to develop and implement planning and policy initiatives that promote sustainable and equitable growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement planning and policy studies, including research and analysis, to inform decision-making.
  • Collaborate with community planners, stakeholders, and City departments to review development applications and planning studies.
  • Assess and formulate policies and programs, including drafting zoning by-law amendments and conducting technical reviews.
  • Develop project plans, prepare terms of reference, and design studies to support planning, research, and policy initiatives.
  • Balance and deliver on a diverse and challenging work program, meeting deadlines and prioritizing tasks effectively.
  • Develop databases, compile and analyze data, and maintain public zoning information.
  • Identify issues, assess resources, and develop strategies to meet community needs, including implementation plans.
  • Liaise with staff, citizens, community groups, and stakeholders to represent the City Planning Division and provide policy leadership.
  • Represent the City at public meetings, committees, and agencies, providing expert advice and presentations.
  • Advise divisions on policy matters and provide policy leadership and cooperation.
Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education in planning, urban geography, or public policy, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Considerable experience reviewing and interpreting planning legislation, policy, and regulations.
  • Experience formulating and implementing planning and policy analysis and recommendations.
  • Experience organizing study designs and interpreting zoning regulations.
