Job Summary:

The Community Mental Health Worker position at Southern Health-Santé Sud is a dynamic opportunity for a skilled professional to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families. As a key member of our mental health team, you will provide essential psychosocial support and counseling services to clients in need.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide psychosocial assessments, consultations, and evidence-informed counseling interventions to individuals referred to the mental health program.
  • Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with clients and referral sources through the service engagement process.
  • Operate within a collaborative care structure, providing time-limited, goal-oriented, change-focused interventions and/or consultations based on informed consent and client capacity.
  • Work to the full scope of practice, engaging in ongoing education and maintaining competency congruent with Southern Health-Santé Sud policies, professional standards, and relevant legislation.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited post-secondary education in Health-Related Social Sciences (e.g., BSW, BScMH, BScPN, BN, RPN).
  • Active license and registration to practice as required by professional association and provincial legislation.
  • Certificate in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills (ASIST).
  • Advanced mental health psychosocial assessment skills and knowledge of evidence-informed therapeutic counseling models, approaches, and interventions.
  • Knowledge of recovery principles in the treatment of mental illness and co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Proficiency with MS Office suite of programs and other technological applications (e.g., telehealth).
  • Minimum of two years supervised counseling experience.

Working Conditions:

  • Completes and maintains a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Search, Adult Abuse Registry Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check, as appropriate.
  • Requires a valid Class 5 driver's license, an all-purpose insured vehicle, and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.00.
