The Virtual Art DepartmentThe Virtual Art Department (VAD) is a critical component of our Virtual Production pipeline, serving as the bridge between traditional art departments and virtual production. We are seeking a skilled Virtual Art Department Generalist to join our team.
Job SummaryWe are looking for a highly skilled Digital Matte Painter with experience in creating photorealistic digital backgrounds and environments. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in 2D and 3D techniques, including modeling, texturing, shading, lighting, and look development. Proficiency in software such as Photoshop, Maya, Unreal Engine, Nuke, ZBrush, and Substance Painter is required.
Key Responsibilities- Design and create 2D elements in Photoshop, including detailed photorealistic digital backgrounds and environments.
- Set up 2D projections for DMP elements on geometry inside Unreal.
- Collaborate with the Art Director and VAD Supervisor to ensure that artwork aligns with the project's artistic vision and technical requirements.
- Work closely with the VAD Concept Artist to tackle creative development and prepare renders for overpaints.
- Communicate with the VAD Supervisor to follow specific artistic and technical direction.
- Meet defined milestones and deadlines.
- 3+ years of experience in matte painting techniques, including color space and digital paint techniques.
- A strong traditional/digital art foundation with an emphasis on photo-realism.
- Ability to follow a specific style/look and achieve a more stylized finish.
- Desire to learn and ability to quickly pick up new software.
- Demonstration and proven ability in one or more 2D/3D techniques, including modeling, texturing, shading, lighting, look development, matte painting, concept art, design, and procedural environment creation.
- Proven knowledge in software such as Photoshop, Maya, Unreal Engine, Nuke, ZBrush, and Substance Painter.
- Strong teamwork and excellent communication skills.
- VFX or game design experience is a huge plus.
- Proven knowledge in software such as Gaea, Houdini, Blender, Embergen, and SpeedTree is a plus.
