Cable Assembler Job Description

Job Summary:

The Cable Assembler will be responsible for assembling cable harnesses and circuit boards within prescribed tolerances and time frames. The successful candidate will be conversant with related safety regulations, interpretation of blueprints, and other technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manufacture and repair electrical harnesses for installation by soldering, crimping, twisting, encapsulation, and testing with the assistance of work instructions, drawings, and various technical publications.
  • Assemble assemblies using Production Control cards, wire assembly operation sheets, and/or other Company or customer's process specifications.
  • Solder to standards established by the Company with regular requalification.
  • Operate cut & coding as well as labeling machines.
  • Fabricate cable assemblies by grouping, twisting, sleeving, potting, tying, and prepares assemblies for stores.
  • Operate automatic test equipment for acceptance testing of wire assemblies or circuit boards.
  • Manufacture/repair circuit board and component wiring with assistance from engineering drawings, technical manuals, or other directives.
  • Assist on-job-training of other cable assemblers.

Requirements:

  • Entrants into the Cable Assembler trade will have a High School Leaving Certificate or Vocational/Trade School training course.
  • Training in a mechanical/electrical field and a blueprint reading course will be an asset.
  • To reach the top of this classification, the incumbent will have four (4) year's experience as a Cable Assembler and completed all O.J.T. performance objectives.
  • Incumbents must be able to pass and maintain Public Works Government Services Canada (PWGSC) and Transport Canada security clearances.
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to IMP Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment policies. Continually focusing on your individual safety and the safety of others who may be affected by your work and to fully comply with all Federal Health and Safety Legislation.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement, Lean & 5S activities in your area.
  • Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), and Secret Level II Security Clearance through PSPC- Contract Security Program.
