The Mechatronics, Mirrors and Lighting group is a key player in the automotive technologies that drive the future of mobility. We combine deep systems knowledge to develop unique vehicle access experiences, intelligent vision systems, and advanced automotive lighting technologies.

Role Summary

This seasoned leader will lead the production operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, ensuring safety, cost, quality, and performance targets are met.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Leads the development of a work environment based on fairness and concern for people, in accordance with the Magna Employee Charter.
  2. Accountable for leading, managing, supporting, and providing direction to all staff within the department through effective goals/objectives setting, performance monitoring, and reviews, communication, and the execution of on-the-job training and development plans.
  3. Maintains effective staffing levels and creates succession plans and related employee development plans to support current and future needs.
  4. Develops and executes an annual strategic plan for the department, supporting company performance objectives and industry/field-related benchmarking and trends.
  5. Promotes and sustains standardization (standard work/1 pc flow/Cycle time adherence).
  6. Responsible for promoting and achieving Kaizen activities in all department groups, Implementation of the Magna Production System (MPS/TPS) Principles.
  7. Collects, measures, and monitors data related to the overall effectiveness of the department; benchmarking and analyzing these trends to establish action plans for continuous improvement (QOS process).
  8. Develops and implements new processes and procedures as needed to support changing business demands.
  9. Facilitates effective two-way communication through department meetings (minimum monthly) and an Open Door philosophy.
  10. Maintains continuous improvement of the department and keeps current with new products, processes, materials, and equipment technologies.
  11. Ensures visibility and accessibility to employees, by practicing Management By Walking Around (MBWA).
  12. Accountable for department budget preparation, approval, and attainment.
  13. Takes a leadership role in improving assembly efficiency and effectiveness through implementing projects, challenging, and modifying operating practices, and continuous improvement of ongoing operations.
  14. Seeks out and corrects unsafe acts or conditions, ensuring all health and safety policies are followed.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  1. Minimum 5-10 years management experience leading and developing teams.
  2. Post-secondary Degree/Diploma in a related field.
  3. Experience with complex manufacturing processes, automotive an asset.
  4. MPS/TPS knowledge/training an asset.
