Job Title: Education Assistant - Replacement Step #1

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Education Assistant to join our team at Bert Bowes Middle School. As an Education Assistant, you will work under the direction of the classroom teacher and District personnel to provide care and support to students with diverse needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide instructional support to students to implement educational programs as determined by the teacher/resource team/administrator.
  • Construct and locate instructional materials, games, displays, and learning centers.
  • Operate computers, audiovisual equipment, and adaptive technology.
  • Supervise students' completion of education activities, observe and record academic and behavioral assessment data to assist teachers in monitoring students.
  • Copies, transcribes, types, files, and maintains records.
  • Implement behavior management programs as determined by the teacher/resource team.
  • Provide person/health care and physical safety assistance to students.
  • Attend team/parent professional development meetings as required.
  • Assist in the implementation of programs requiring intensive behavior interventions.
  • Supervise students as required in the classroom, gym, school, playground, loading/unloading of buses, community field trips.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalency.
  • Willingness to maintain current CPI status.
  • Level 1 First Aid Certificate may be required.
  • Education Assistant Certificate, which includes documented training in the following areas: pervasive developmental disorders, including ASD, FASD, and complex behavioral needs; developmental and sensory needs and disorders; personal care: dressing, toileting, feeding, lifting, transferring, seizure management; technology-assisted programs; behavior support: conflict resolution, anger management, nonviolent behavioral interventions, behavior/safety/crisis/emergency plans; learning challenges: learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, learning challenges.
  • Formal POPARD training or experience.
  • Proven ability to remain calm in difficult situations.
  • Proven ability to develop positive relationships with students.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible/adaptable when faced with new or challenging situations.
  • Physical ability to keep up with an active child.
  • Ability to work independently and set priorities.
  • WHMIS Certificate and other online safety training provided by the District to be completed within the probationary period.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to be an integral part of a team.
  • Must be able to pass a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Search conducted by the District prior to starting employment.

What We Offer:

We offer a competitive salary range of $26.24-$31.43, based on certification, and an hourly rate of $23.14 for LPM duties. We also provide opportunities for professional development and a supportive work environment.
