Job Title: Council Research Intern

The City of Kingston is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to fill the role of Council Research Intern. As a key member of our team, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in policy research and data analysis, working closely with City Councillors and other professionals.

Job Summary:

This is an exciting opportunity to apply your academic knowledge to real-world policy research and analysis. You will be responsible for conducting comprehensive research on a wide range of policy issues, developing databases to support decision-making, and monitoring the latest legislative and governmental developments that affect the City.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research on policy issues and develop databases to support decision-making
  • Monitor the latest legislative and governmental developments that affect the City
  • Work closely with City Councillors and other professionals to provide research support
  • Develop and maintain databases to support policy research and analysis
  • Provide recommendations to the Council on policy issues
Qualifications and Competencies:

To be considered for this position, you must be enrolled in and returning to full-time post-secondary studies in the fall of 2024, with verification required. The ideal candidate will have experience researching a variety of information and topics, as well as analyzing data and working with databases. You will also possess excellent report writing skills, allowing you to communicate complex ideas and findings effectively.

Skills and Abilities:

We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled individual who can thrive both independently and as part of a team. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and advanced knowledge of MS Office applications. You will also be required to exercise sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential information and to follow instructions and perform duties with limited direct supervision.
