Council Research Assistant

About the Role

The City of Kingston is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to fill the position of Council Research Intern. As a key member of our team, you will have the opportunity to work closely with City Councillors and contribute to the development of policies and initiatives that benefit our community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive research on a wide range of policy issues and develop databases to support decision-making
  • Monitor the latest legislative and governmental developments that affect the City
  • Assist in the development of benchmarking studies and research best practices
  • Provide recommendations to the Council on policy issues
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Enrolled in and returning to full-time post-secondary studies in the fall of 2024
  • Experience researching a variety of information and topics
  • Excellent report writing skills and ability to communicate complex ideas effectively
  • Knowledge of local government and commitment to Customer Focus, Results Orientation, Integrity, and Teamwork

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Ability to interpret and understand legislation, municipal by-laws, city policies and procedures, protocols, and related guidelines
