Job Summary:
The Steel Detailer/Drafter will assist the Project Managers in ensuring that drawings are completed and correct according to the project's construction drawings. This role is responsible for modeling, checking structural details to be practical, efficient, and accurate, and working with the drafters in the department to ensure that proper drafting standards are being upheld and followed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Modeling and Detailing: Create and develop structural steel models based on the contract documents using SDS/2 steel detailing software.
- Drawings and Documentation: Prepare fabrication (shop) drawings and erection drawings as required.
- Project Coordination: Help to coordinate projects and/or check drawings prepared by others.
- Knowledge and Compliance: Maintain a current working knowledge and understanding of the latest version of the AISC/CISC Steel Construction Manual as it relates to connection design, detailing practices, steel member dimensions and properties.
- Contract Review and Analysis: Review contract documents to understand project's scope and requirements, identify all potential areas of concern and prepare Request For Information (RFI's) as required.
- Revision Management: Interpret and incorporate Approval Comments, Contract Changes, and other revisions into the scope of the project.
- Support and Collaboration: Prepare all necessary lists, documents, or files (shop & field bolts, galvanized pieces, CNC files, etc.) to the appropriate department in support of the project.
- Quality Management: Participate in the quality management program.
- Work Environment: Keep the work area tidy and clean without clutter.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 5+ years' experience detailing structural steel using software SDS/2 3D steel detailing software.
- Certification: Certified Engineering Technician or Technologist is an asset.
- Education and Training: Some schooling or practical experience in reviewing/analyzing/interpreting professional drawings such as architectural, structural, or mechanical drawings.
- Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of AWS/CWB welding practices and procedures as well as a working knowledge of shop and erection equipment and practices.
- Codes and Standards: Knowledge and experience working with CISC/AISC codes.
- Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Dedicated team player with good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Technical Skills: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
