The specialist works closely with clients and community mental health workers to identify specific goals and activities for proctor involvement, promoting consumer empowerment and rehabilitation. The focus of services will be on providing recovery-oriented intervention within the client's natural and chosen environment.
The Mental Health Support Specialist will exercise independent judgment in determining work priorities, work methods, and action to be taken on unusual matters. The position functions in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Southern Health-Santé Sud.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide rehabilitation and recovery-oriented intervention to clients with severe mental illness.
- Work collaboratively with clients and community mental health workers to identify goals and activities for proctor involvement.
- Exercise independent judgment in determining work priorities, work methods, and action to be taken on unusual matters.
- Function in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Southern Health-Santé Sud.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 or GED equivalent, with additional educational training in the area of mental health.
- One-year volunteer/work-related experience.
- Understanding of Consumer Empowerment and Recovery principles.
- Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population.
- Proficiency in both official languages.
- Demonstrated ability to meet the physical and mental demands of the job.
- Demonstrated ability to respect confidentiality.
- Good work and attendance record.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires a valid Class 5 driver's license, an all-purpose insured vehicle, and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.00.
