Island Health seeks a dedicated Family Practitioner to join our team at the W'SANEC Health Clinic. This position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with Indigenous communities and contribute to their well-being.
You will work in partnership with four W'SANEC Health Directors, advocating for their communities and implementing comprehensive accountability measures for general practitioners. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will collaborate with Nurse Practitioners, Primary Care Nurses, Mental Health and Addictions Counsellors, Indigenous Wellness Supports, Pharmacists, MH Clinicians, and Social Workers.
This role utilizes a hub-and-spoke model, providing services across the W'SANEC communities. Your initial placement will be at Tsawout First Nation, transitioning to the W'SANEC clinic in North Saanich when ready.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience working with First Nations communities, demonstrating a commitment to Indigenous cultural safety and anti-racist practices in healthcare.
- Knowledge of Indigenous worldviews and Indigenous ways of understanding health and wellness.
- A relational approach to healthcare provision and a strong desire to engage with and learn from Indigenous patients, families, and community members about their needs.
After-Hours Expectations: This role includes providing Opioid Agonist Treatment (OAT) for patients, including initiation, follow-up, and stabilization of OAT starts. You will collaborate with the Mental Health Support Unit (MHSU), other primary care providers, the Saanich Peninsula Emergency Department, and community services to monitor clients' clinical status and response to treatment.
Community Information: Located in Central Saanich, Saanichton offers a blend of suburban residential and rural agricultural communities. Its proximity to Victoria provides convenient access to city amenities while maintaining a relaxed and peaceful lifestyle.
