Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Customs Compliance Specialist to join our team at Linamar Corporation. As a key member of our trade compliance team, you will be responsible for ensuring that our import and export activities are in compliance with all relevant customs regulations and laws.
Key Responsibilities
- Assign proper classification codes for imported and exported merchandise to ensure accurate duty payment.
- Review vendors' Free Trade Agreement (FTA) certificates of origin for completeness and accuracy, and ensure that our customs broker has up-to-date copies on file.
- Resolve day-to-day operational issues related to import and export documentation discrepancies, classification, valuation, and other customs-related matters to ensure timely and successful customs clearance of products.
- Work closely with our customs broker to answer inquiries related to the declaration of goods.
- Provide customs consulting services on customs compliance, trade initiatives, and other related matters, including blanket claims, duty recovery, national and advance rulings, CBSA audits, tariff classification, and drawback claims.
- Research and analyze process improvement opportunities to enhance our trade compliance and customs clearance processes.
- Develop and implement ideas to improve customs compliance and trade savings opportunities.
- Assist with compliance reviews, internal self-assessments, vendor Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs), and post-entry audits.
Requirements
- College diploma in Border Services and Customs.
- 3-5 years of experience in a customs role, preferably as a Rater or Business Analyst.
- Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation.
- CTCS (Certified Trade Compliance Specialist) designation is considered an asset.
- Strong working knowledge of customs systems, rulings, and Customs Self-Assessment (CSA).
- Excellent understanding of customs requirements associated with importation.
- Solid understanding of valuation, tariff treatments, SIMA, and other related customs regulations.
- Experience in duty drawback and customs duty recovery.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within government departments.
- Proficient in Excel and Word.
- Exceptional organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable working under multiple deadlines simultaneously.
