Customs Compliance Specialist

Linamar Corporation is seeking a highly skilled Customs Compliance Specialist to provide regulatory support to both external and internal stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assign proper classification codes for imported and exported merchandise to ensure accurate duty payment.
  • Review vendors' FTA certificates of origin for completeness and accuracy, ensuring the broker has up-to-date copies on file.
  • Resolve day-to-day operational issues, such as import and export documentation discrepancies, classification, valuation, etc., to ensure successful and timely customs clearance of products.
  • Collaborate with Customs Broker to address inquiries related to the declaration of goods.
  • Provide customs consulting services on customs compliance, current trade initiatives, and other related topics.
  • Research and analyze process improvement opportunities to enhance customs compliance and trade savings.
  • Formulate ideas and deliver possible compliance improvement and trade savings opportunities.
  • Assist with compliance reviews, internal self-assessments, vendor QBRs, and post-entry audits.

Requirements:

  • College diploma in Border Services and Customs.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a Customs role (Rater, Business Analyst).
  • Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation.
  • CTCS (Certified Trade Compliance Specialist) considered an asset.
  • Knowledge/experience with Customs systems, rulings, Customs Self Assessment (CSA).
  • Strong working knowledge of Customs requirements associated with importation.
  • Solid understanding of Valuation, Tariff Treatments SIMA, etc.
  • Experience in duty drawback and customs duty recovery.
  • Ability to communicate at all levels within Government departments.
  • Competent in Excel/Word.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Comfortable working toward multiple deadlines at the same time.
