Position Overview

The Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist will play a pivotal role in the coordination, design, implementation, and evaluation of our Pediatric Outpatient clinics. Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing and triaging patient appointments and follow-up care.
  • Engaging in research initiatives to enhance clinical practices.
  • Facilitating operational workflows across multiple Pediatric Outpatient clinics.
  • Collaborating effectively with the Pediatric inpatient unit, NICU, POGO, BU, and PPU.
  • Monitoring and assessing program quality and patient satisfaction through feedback from customers, staff, and physicians.
  • Providing leadership and navigating complex clinical decisions with confidence.

Core Responsibilities

The Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist will coordinate the operations of the outpatient clinic in partnership with pediatricians and interdisciplinary team members. This role requires a strong foundation in evidence-based practices to support pediatric patients and their families. The nurse will oversee patient flow within the outpatient clinic by effectively triaging all referrals.

Qualifications

  • Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Nurse.
  • Preferred recent experience in a pediatric outpatient setting.
  • Required recent experience working with pediatric populations within the last five years.
  • Strong knowledge of Childhood asthma, Hematology, Complex Care, RSV, and ROP.
  • Preferred experience in immunization practices.
  • Experience with initiating IVs and blood draws for children is preferred.
  • Certification as a Pediatric Asthma Educator is preferred.
  • NRP and PALS certification required or willingness to obtain within six months of hire.
  • Education in breastfeeding practices is preferred.
  • Experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and public relations skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities.
  • Demonstrated capability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proven initiative and autonomy in utilizing critical thinking and advanced decision-making skills.
  • Experience in program development and quality improvement initiatives.
