Job Summary

Under the supervision of a teacher or administrator, the Education Assistant Level 1 will provide support to students in a school setting. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with students, modify and prepare teaching materials, and compile and update student records.

Key Responsibilities
  • Tutor students and provide academic support
  • Modify and prepare specialized teaching materials
  • Compile and update student records
  • Monitor student behavior and provide guidance as needed
  • Supervise students during noon hour and bus supervision as required
Requirements
  • 6 months of relevant training or experience in a related field
  • Recent Okanagan College Education Assistant certificate or equivalent education
  • Practicum experience or training in dealing with resistant students and conflict resolution
  • Familiarity with current special education technology
  • Proven ability to learn and use new technology
  • Strong literacy, numeracy, and English skills
  • Ability to develop rapport with students and work in a team setting
  • Strong interpersonal skills, initiative, flexibility, and good communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Bilingual - fluency in French and English is required
