Reporting to the Superintendent of Compliance and Management Systems, the Supervisor of Occupational Hygiene will be tasked with managing the Occupational Health and Hygiene (OH&H) performance at our operations. This role will provide strategic guidance on OH&H management systems and initiatives, collaborating with line management, supervisors, workers, and contractors to achieve OH&H enhancement goals. The position will also offer OH&H leadership and coordination to effectively implement management systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Act as a proactive safety leader, upholding and promoting safety and environmental regulations.
  2. Develop and implement Occupational Health and Hygiene programs that align with Teck's standards and regulatory requirements, emphasizing risk and exposure mitigation.
  3. Initiate and oversee physical and chemical exposure monitoring and assessment projects.
  4. Analyze and interpret collected data, providing recommendations for risk reduction strategies.
  5. Facilitate the creation, execution, and reporting of annual site exposure reduction initiatives.
  6. Manage occupational health improvement strategies and related activities.
  7. Provide expert technical support in OH&H and lead the team in resource provision for operational needs.
  8. Design and conduct technical training programs for health and hygiene, including train-the-trainer sessions.
  9. Maintain effective relationships with regulatory bodies, labor unions, Teck operations, and special project teams.
  10. Ensure accurate documentation of workplace exposures to monitor historical trends and report to stakeholders.
  11. Oversee medical surveillance initiatives and utilize exposure monitoring data to identify relevant workgroups.
  12. Guide and mentor safety personnel on Occupational Health and Hygiene, fostering professional development within the OH&H team.
  13. Establish and manage budgetary requirements for operational and capital expenditures related to health and hygiene.
  14. Develop and supervise risk assessments concerning exposure and health improvements.
  15. Coordinate with external hygiene consultants and analysis services to ensure quality deliverables.
  16. Represent the Health, Safety, and Risk team as a subject matter expert on all OH&H-related committees and initiatives.
Qualifications:
  1. Post-secondary degree in Occupational Hygiene or a related scientific discipline; a graduate degree is preferred.
  2. Certification as an Industrial Hygienist from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene or as a Registered Occupational Hygienist from the Canadian Registration Board of Occupational Hygienists.
  3. A minimum of five years of experience in evaluating and controlling occupational exposures in an industrial setting.
  4. Thorough understanding of applicable Health and Safety regulations and the ability to interpret complex mandatory regulations and their implications.
  5. Familiarity with key safety leadership principles and the significance of influencing skills.
  6. Exceptional communication abilities, capable of engaging with a diverse array of stakeholders.
  7. Experience with occupational hygiene data management systems is an asset.

Salary Range: $117,000 - $144,500

The actual base salary offered will be based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies, while also considering internal equity.
